Profile
I am a Principal Teaching Fellow in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds in the. I graduated as a mature student from the School in 1981 and remained there to completer my PhD. I was very fortunate to have been and student at Leeds while Zygmunt Bauman was our professor and intellectual leader and benefited enormously from his teaching and support as an undergraduate and as a postgraduate student. My main research and teaching areas are sociological theory and research methods. My main substantive area is society and the environment. I have for many years had a lead role in the University for developing computer and information technologies for teaching and research and have focussed more recently on the use of Web 2.0 applications and platforms to develop personal learning environments and networks.
